Put your own spin on it.

Yonex launched brand new VCORE series in 2023.
In this article, I will be writing of a review of the VCORE 100.

Specifications

  • Weight: 300g/10.6oz
  • Balance: 320mm
  • Length: 27in
  • Head Size: 100sq.in
  • Stiffness/RA: 62

It’s a very versatile model with general specifications that can be used by players of all levels.

Summary

This new seventh-generation VCORE 100 will be a powerful weapon for players of all levels, providing immense power and spin performance.

Compared to the previous VCORE, it has a firmer feel while also offering higher spin performance and explosive power similar to the EZONE, allowing you to hit deep, penetrating shots.

One noticeable change is that the hoop’s 10 o’clock to 2 o’clock area has been widened, increasing power when hitting at the top of the frame. Additionally, the throat section has been thickened, enhancing stability.

Ground Strokes: Score 7.5/10

The YONEX VCORE 100 provides explosive power and high spin performance for all players. If you want to hit spin-heavy shots with the help of the racket or overpower your opponent with powerful shots, this is the perfect racket for you.

For groundstrokes, the increased power compared to the previous model might make the ball feel like it’s flying too much, but at the same time, the improved spin performance allows the ball to land deep in the court almost automatically.

For groundstrokes, the increased power compared to the previous model might make the ball feel like it’s flying too much, but at the same time, the improved spin performance allows the ball to land deep in the court almost automatically.

Additionally, because of the open string pattern, the racket almost automatically generates spin, making it recommended for beginners or women who find it difficult to generate spin on their own.

However, personally, I can’t help but feel that it has too much power compared to the previous model. For those who feel it’s too powerful, I recommend considering the VCORE 98.

Volleys: Score 7/10

During volleys, I could really feel the enhanced stability provided by the redesigned throat section. This characteristic stability prevents any wobbling, allowing you to return volleys without being overpowered by your opponent’s shots. Also the characteristic stiffness of the VCORE provides a crisp, bouncing feel when returning volleys.

However, due to this stiffness, you need to be careful about injuries, especially when volleying against close-range shots from your opponent. The stiffness results in vibrations, and if you don’t hit the sweet spot correctly, it can cause damage to your wrist. Additionally, this racket is not suitable for those who want a flexible feel or the sensation of the ball sitting on the racket face during volleys.

Overall, although there are some aspects you need to be cautious about, it’s easy to hit powerful volleys, and the racket’s stability ensures that you won’t be overpowered by your opponent’s shots, making volleys easier to execute.

Serves: Score 7.5/10

With the VCORE 100, you can hit powerful serves, making it a formidable weapon. The kick on the spin serve is particularly impressive; my opponents mentioned that my spin serve was very difficult to return due to its bounce. Similar to groundstrokes, the VCORE also delivers powerful shots on serves. Additionally, technologies like Aero Fin improve the racket’s aerodynamics, increasing swing speed compared to other 100-square-inch rackets.

However, for advanced players who rely on power, the racket’s excessive power might result in the ball flying too much. Especially with flat serves, you might need to adjust by tossing the ball slightly further forward than usual. Nevertheless, if you can fully commit to your swings, you can overwhelm your opponents with powerful serves, making it crucial to swing through on both first and second serves.

Returns: Score 8/10

Actually, my favorite part of the VCORE is its performance on returns. With this racket, you can return serves effectively without being overpowered, thanks to its high stability. This will help improve your break rate during the games. Additionally, the racket’s power allows you to send the ball deep into the court with a compact stance and swing. The Isometric technology also enlarges the sweet spot, so you can return the ball even if you slightly miss the sweet spot, allowing you to start rallies effortlessly. Additionally, the VCORE makes it easier to lift the ball’s trajectory, which helps reduce the number of returns that go into the net.

Overall: Score 7.5/10

Overall, the VCORE’s features are stability and power, allowing you to hit powerful shots with any stroke. However, due to its powerful nature, there is a risk that shots might fly too much, potentially leading to more errors. Specifically, since the feel is quite different from the previous model, those who used the previous VCORE100 might want to consider the VCORE98 model.

Who Would This Be Recommended For?

  • Intermediate and advanced players who can fully commit to their swings and want to hit powerful shots.
  • Beginners who want to rely on the racket’s assist to generate spin and propel the ball.
